Nursery

Nursery forms part of the Foundation Stage and staff work very closely across the phase with Reception Class staff and pupils. The phase is integrally linked with the middle and upper phases of the school.

Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which is made up of seven areas of learning.

The prime areas are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

The specific areas are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We have a rich and varied curriculum in which the children are encouraged to become the best that they can be. All children take home Library books to share with their families. Each child also enjoys taking home their group’ s Furry Friend, providing writing and photographs of what they have done together with family members to share at school.

In Nursery, we promote independence and prepare children for the rest of their school lives. Nursery children enjoy self-chosen activities for a large part of the day. These include play and learning opportunities in our outdoor environment.

During the year, we have a variety of exciting events to which parents are invited: Christmas Performance, Mothers’ Day Celebrations and other opportunities to share the wider curriculum. In order to strengthen the partnership between home and school, we also have Stay and Play, Literacy and Maths sessions, where parents enjoy coming into Nursery to work with their children.

We offer a warm, fun and exciting learning environment where the children are encouraged to achieve their full potential. We aim to nurture children who will then enjoy the rest of their Learning Journey.
