Year 3
Year 3 children children make the important transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.
The children face a lot of changes within the school day and by Christmas they have settled in. Provision is made for both individual and group work which allows the pupils to continue their development as independent and responsible learners.
The time in Year 3 is very special. The children work very hard on preparing for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. This is an important time for children from all denominations as they learn about forgiveness and respect for one another in the context of receiving Jesus in Holy Communion.
A variety of opportunities is arranged throughout the year to extend learning outside the classroom. Pupils take part in various visits which are planned to broaden the learning environment. In the Autumn Term, pupils have the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons at Handsworth Leisure Centre.
All the children are given access to a variety of after school clubs, for example Football, IT, RE and Gymnastics, all of which enhance independence and enjoyment.
Homework is considered to be an important element of the child’s learning experience. Children will receive a variety of challenges in line with our school policy. Occasionally the children may be asked to complete a design and technology project which helps to develop their creativity.
